iPhone 6 and iOS 7 start showing up in usage logs

The first signs of iOS 7 and the iPhone 6 have been popping up in app usage logs, according to The Next Web, who received word from unnamed developers. According to the sources, hardware is currently being tested by Apple showing an iPhone6,1 identifier, similar to the iPhone 5′s iPhone5,1 identifier. The device in question runs iOS 7.
The sources provided some developer logs, which show, among other things, an IP address from the Cupertino campus for app requests, indicating that the Apple posse is testing currently available apps for compatibility. Aside from these slivers of information from the usage logs, sources have stated that Apple will complete iOS 7′s features in the near future.
Back when developers first began seeing traces of iOS 6, it was unveiled at WWDC in June soon after. If the same pattern holds for iOS 7, we’ll likely get a look at it come the conference this summer, nearly exactly half a year from now.
Of course, there’s no proof that the supplied usage logs aren’t tweaked with fake info. Keep in mind that the information comes from potentially unreliable sources, and that nothing official has been confirmed. The Next Web states that it believes the logs are legitimate because of the IP, but until something more legitimate comes our ways, take it with a grain of salt.

Panasonic TC P55VT50 3D TV

This Panasonic 3D TV is a fully featured three-dimension machine. It has all the basic hookup capabilities, including one composite and one component video input, as well as digital and analog audio inputs and outputs. These are clearly labeled on the back of the television. You can connect your 3D TV to your personal computer and your local area network. The TV also has three USB ports and four HDMI inputs for your DVD player, your 3D Blu-ray player and all your gaming systems. You dont have to worry about unplugging your Xbox to hook up your Blu-ray player; there is plenty of room for all your connection needs. Those basics are to be expected. More importantly and excitingly, this television is capable of converting two-dimensional images into immersive, three-dimensional environments. This is made possible by technology unique to Panasonics line of Viera HDTVs that produces detailed, 3D depth for 2D images. With this conversion feature, you can watch DVDs, Blu-rays and ordinary television broadcasts in three clear dimensions. However, when you use your TV to convert 2D images into 3D, the 3D effect is marginally less pronounced than when you enjoy material from 3D sources on your TV. This 3D TV also has a game mode for decreased lag and increased clarity, and intuitive settings to provide the best images possible, even in dark scenes. As one of the only plasma HDTVs on our lineup, this Panasonic 3D TV has an incredibly high refresh rate of 600Hz. The television uses its 600Hz subfield drive to cultivate the best possible picture in either 2D or 3D mode. Most LED TVs have a refresh rate of up to 480Hz, tops. Like all plasma TVs, this one displays images using electrically charged ionized gases instead of light-emitting diodes. Plasma TVs are thin and can create rich colors and deep blacks. This 3D TV and all Panasonic HDTVs also use fast-switching phosphors that reduce afterglow and create clear images.
We reviewed the 55-inch Panasonic, but the Viera VT line also has a 65-inch model for consumers who are especially ambitious about their home theaters. It has excellent resolution, 1920 x 1080. The TVs default aspect ratio is the standard HDTV wide-screen 16:9. However, you also have aspect control so you can zoom in for traditional 4:3 broadcasts. The aspect ratio is the measurement of the TVs width compared to its height.
This 55-inch Panasonic has a contrast ratio of 2 million pixels to one, and a viewing angle of 178 degrees. The contrast ratio indicates the contrast of the brightest white the TV can produce to the darkest black. The scale of this measurement is not universal; it varies with each manufacturer. The viewing angle refers to the maximum angle at which you can effectively view 3D and HD images. The three-dimensional effect is greater on the Panasonic 3D TV the further you are from the television. As you increase this distance, the images seem to have greater depth and the 3D seems more realistic.

Young India Welcomes New Generation Mobile Phones TNS Mobile

TNS, the world’s largest custom research company, today launched TNS Mobile Life 2011, the largest ever global research study into today’s mobile consumer. Now into its sixth year, TNS Mobile Life is the result of more than 25,000 hours of interviews with over 34,000 respondents in 43 countries. In India, this study was conducted across 30 cities covering over 5000 respondents. It provides a complete understanding of consumer experiences with mobility today and insights into how this will change tomorrow.

The findings highlight that as “static” functionality such as SMS and still imaging become commoditised, growth will be driven through further demand for social functionality and new demands for video calling, streaming and sharing services:
The number of mobile web users visiting social networking sites grew from 30% to 46% globally, and from 26% to 50% in emerging markets*, leapfrogging much of the developed markets. In India, with current user accounting for only 3%; social networking is expected to grow significantly with 23% users interested in making use of this service from their handsets

Only 18% of consumers globally managed to upload photos or video directly to the web from their mobiles, during the same period, but a further 44% would be interested in doing so in future. In India, only 4% of mobile users make use of this feature but a good 34% are interested

Consumers in emerging markets are more likely to want to upload content (49%), but more than half (55%) do not have the ability to do so
“Mobile devices stand out at the centre of personal communication and personal entertainment in otherwise shared life of Indians”, said Parijat Chakraborty, Senior Vice President, Technology & B2B, TNS India. “With consumer preferences shifting in favour of other form factors, handset manufacturers and content providers will need to make their product range feature rich and at the same time engaging for the young consumers with infotainment services like stream music, live TV, video, access to social networking sites being some of the key growth avenues.”

“With mobiles increasingly becoming the primary device for internet access and communication, particularly in emerging markets, entertainment and multimedia features are a key requirement for engaging with consumers,” said James Fergusson, Managing Director, Global Technology Sector, TNS. “Handset manufacturers need to ensure that entertainment offers, particularly mobile music, gaming, pictures, video and social networking are available and easy to access. Many are missing a trick in not bringing more smartphones to market in high-growth countries.”

Many emerging markets users outpace their western counterparts, leading demand for the latest mobile technologies Camera features may have reached a saturation point, growing only 1% between 2010 and 2011, but nearly a quarter of global consumers (24%) say the ability to take and share pictures and video will play a major role in their choice of next device.

31% consumers in India indicate that the ability to take and share pictures and video will play a major role in their choice of next device coming a close second to the handset’s ability to store music (34%).

TNS Mobile Life shows the strongest growth in new services in the last 12 months has come from social video (10% to 15%) and Live TV (9% to 12%). Over half of consumers (54%) are interested in video calling, despite not yet using the service and half are interested in watching live TV (50%) or in downloading or streaming video (48%).

In Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa, demand for Live TV in particular is higher still, reaching upwards of 70%. “Emerging Tier 1 markets, such as China, Brazil and UAE already have penetration levels that match mature markets,” Fergusson continues. “Multimedia content presents an opportunity to leverage growth potential in emerging economies. Income constraints in many of these markets ensure the importance of imaging and video services through mobiles increases.”

Brand, partnerships and demand for tablets – challenges in maintaining market share in a crowded environment Across developed (44%) and emerging (77%) markets handset brand is considered an important factor in product decision making. Content brands, however, are building equity in the mobile ecosystem, with more than 1 in 4 global consumers saying content and apps are a key consideration at the point of purchase.

In India, handset brands (36%) are considered an important factor in product decision making and have maintained their commitment. However, content brands (29% to 37%) have leapfrogged and overpowered network brands (35% to 27%) in the last 12 months. “Emergence of content as a strong contender in the entire ecosystem further reiterates the need to adopt a more collaborative approach in order to achieve sustained growth,” adds Parijat.

The results from TNS Mobile Life show that as markets mature, key purchase influencers shift to content and application offerings, along with operating system. Providing desirable content – and engaging with local partners where appropriate - is a clear opportunity to capture equity in markets where content brand share is low, but increasing.

Partnerships will become increasingly important as handset manufacturers look to maintain market share as tablets are just beginning to appear in the horizon in the Indian market. Fortunately for handset manufacturers, consumer’s intention to purchase a tablet is low and at the same time is viewed either as a complementary device or as a replacement for a PC, rather than a mobile.

“While there has been previous research into mobility, Mobile Life has truly set a precedent in its scope, depth and breadth of information on mobile consumers’ behaviour and decision influences,” said Fergusson. “The study reveals significant breakthroughs and detailed analyses of the interests, key drivers and influencers in consumers’ purchase decisions across the globe.”

Asus Transformer AiO A 5 Pound 18 Inch Tablet Behemoth

"Transformer” is the perfect name for the latest all-in-one from Asus. It’s a PC that can become an 18-inch tablet. It runs Windows 8 and Android. And it’s freakin’ huge at more than five pounds.
Asus announced Thursday that this behemoth, the Transformer AiO, which made its debut in June, will ship sometime in the second quarter with a starting price of $1,300.
The Transformer AiO is an interesting hybrid that can serve as an all-in-one desktop PC or a comically large tablet. The entire gadget is comprised of a tablet display that docks into a stand that holds the PC guts needed for more serious computing.
When the AiO is docked, the device runs Windows 8 and is powered by Intel’s core i3 CPU (though it can be purchased with an i5 or i7 processor as well). Graphics processing is handled by a Nvidia GeForce GT730 GPU, and the AiO can be had with either 4GB or 8GB of RAM. You have two choices of hard drives for local storage — 1TB or 2TB. There’s also an optical drive for reading and burning CDs and DVDs, 4 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, an SD card slot, and HDMI port (for hooking the AiO up to a TV or extra monitor), and a built-in TV tuner. And all of this is built into the device’s PC Station stand.
Once the tablet/display of the AiO is removed from its stand, it can run as a Windows 8 tablet that wirelessly taps all the processing horsepower in the stand, as long as both pieces are on the same Wi-Fi connection. While in tablet mode, users can switch over to Google’s Android OS (Version 4.1 Jelly Bean). In Android tablet mode, the AiO runs solely on what it’s got inside, which is pretty meaty by today’s tablet standards — namely a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of local storage. The 10-point multitouch display measures in at 18.4-inches and boasts a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
Did we mention this sucker will be heavy? The AiO’s tablet/display chunk will weigh in at 5.29 pounds, while the PC Station stand weighs 9. Thankfully, you have no good reason to carry the stand around, but the tablet’s heft makes it one of the least mobile slates we’ve seen. Asus knows this, which is probably why it gave the tablet a kickstand, which allows users to prop it up at either 35-degree or 100-degree angles. This is a tablet for your coffee table or desk, not the coffee shop or park. Stick to the Asus-built Nexus 7 (a tablet we adore) for that.
There’s no question the AiO looks plenty capable. But it leaves us wondering who the hell would buy such a behemoth?
